A modern, light filled, extension attached to the rear of a traditional Petone Bungalow.

Due to the narrow width of the site, the design approach was to remove the existing lean-too which ran the full width of the house and build the bulk of the new living along the length of the southern boundary – though in a manner which is considerate to the lots adjacent. In doing so, we were able to maximise the northern aspect with minimal impact on the surrounding properties, whilst providing a light filled living area. The long form of the house now seamlessly flows onto the northern aspect of the yard, with all living spaces having direct connection.

From the streetscape, the aesthetic of the original bungalow was maintained and refurbished both internally and externally. As you enter the property, however, is when you first get a glance of what is to come. A progression from old to new, with careful detailing and an international threshold lets the two components complement each other yet be true to their integrity.
